Developer New World have pulled no punches in making their guns feel as true to life as possible. The raw feel of recoil and drift are exceptionally well-crafted. Guns jam, overheat and become downright unusable in the most inopportune times. You won’t find any auto-aim or assist here, nor will your crosshair ever be dead center of the screen. It sets itself apart from other modern shooters with some of the most realistic and unforgiving gunplay. Insurgency: Sandstorm is not for the feint of heart - this is a no frills, hardcore realistic shooter with all the bells and whistles to boot. It is imperative for new players to familiarize themselves with nuances of each of these locales because combat is where the real meat and potatoes of Sandstorm reside. This isn’t a run and gun affair either you’ll need to be extremely strategic, particularly in PVP, to win the day.Ĭomplimenting the many modes are 14 diverse maps in a variety of locales, whether fighting tooth and nail block by block, or in more open terrain, there is more than enough to keep things fresh. A fantastic in-game VOIP system can and should be used if you’re to operate successfully as a unit. Everything needs to be checked and communicated. Caution and observation are the name of the game. One of these modes, Checkpoint, casts a particularly addictive spell. Each mode features unique objectives which are diverse enough to keep players entertained for hour on end. Team-based objectives are the name of the game whether you're playing in co-op vs AI or in multiplayer. On the surface, it smacks of a generic shooter, but under the hood there’s a lot more going on and this is where it deviates wildly.įirst and foremost, Sandstorm features no campaign whatsoever, it is a purely tactical co-op and multiplayer affair. You would be forgiven for thinking Insurgency: Sandstorm is another romp to the middle-east a-la Call of Duty or Battlefield. But does it translate? And how does it fair in 2021? Lace up your boots and make sure to double check your magazine, this is one hell of a ride!
